Collection: Oak, Cork

Cork Oak, Quercus suber, is an evergreen species of Oak that is grown in western Africa and southwestern Europe and reaches heights of 30 to 50 ft. Trees from the Mediterranean basin produce thick, furrowed bark that is used for wine bottle corks, subflooring, and cricket balls. Trees can have their bark removed every 9 to 12 years without any harm to the tree. In fact, the life expectancy of a Cork Oak tree is 200 to 400 years! The wood produced is warm brown in hue with reddish colored sapwood. Medullary rays produce beautiful flecking in areas of quartersawn wood grain.
